Preparing for Your Pet’s Portrait
As you prepare for the fun ahead, there are a few things I ask of you and your pet to be sure the session goes as smoothly as possible:
Please have your dogs do their business outside on the grass before you come in.
Please do not feed your pet right before the session. Treats can be the best tool during pet portraits, so make sure they will have room in their bellies.
Have on hand their favorite treats and/or toy. Keep it a secret as best as you can!
Please remove unnecessary collars, such as flea collars.
If your pet is high energy, please walk or exercise them before the session, if possible.
And last, but certainly not least, relax and have a great time. If you’re calm, your pets will be calm too and everyone will enjoy the process!
After your pets do their business on the grass outside, come on in to the studio. We will lock the door behind you so no one can accidentally let your pets out.
Everyone gets settled in and ask you some questions about our goals for the session.
We will work with your pets to create the images. We may need your help holding a leash.
Patience is key, we never push your pet or stress them out more than necessary.
It’s up to you if you would like to leave collars on or not.
It may be necessary to work with each pet individually, we have separate rooms if we need to separate everyone.
We will create a few different poses and use a couple different backgrounds or props to create beautiful images for you.
When our photographer has everything needed, she will prepare the images for you to view!
You will meet our photographer in the front room where we will reveal the images to you and you will select what art work you would like to have.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. (757) 912-5862 or email email@example.com
What To Wear?
If your pet is dark, or black, do not wear a shirt that is too dark. Your pet will disappear into your shirt! Wear something that is a little lighter than your pet, but not white. Same thing goes for white pets, white shirts will make your pets disappear.
Plain clothing, no patterns or images, usually photographs better.
For women, long sleeves are usually more flattering than short sleeve shirts.
Neutral colors such as earth tones work well. Also, dressing to match your decor is a good idea.
It’s great to coordinate your outfits.
For men, collared shirts with long sleeves look nice, or polo shirts. Think business casual.
Before And After
We want your images to be perfect!
We spend time on each and every image you order to make sure that what you get is an ideal image!
Backgrounds and Styles
We will send a questionnaire for you to complete before you come in for your portrait to find out more about what you like. In the meantime, take a look at these different options so you can get the process started! Also, make sure to check out our portfolio here on the website.
Take pictures of your walls! Look around your home and consider all the different places you may want to put your artwork.
Tape an 8.5x11 page to the wall and take pictures of all the walls you think art may be displayed. Then, email those images to firstname.lastname@example.org.
(You may also measure something that is in the image and give us the measurements in the email.) Our app will take your walls and allow us to superimpose your portraits onto your own wall TO SCALE!
Extra help: Please take your pictures from a distance so that it includes other parts of your home as a frame of reference. For example, take a picture that also captures the rest of the wall in as much of its entirety as possible. See the picture below as an example.
Q: Can I bring multiple pets?
A: Yes! We love working with all kinds of pets and are used to the craziness that happens when there are a lot of them in the studio. You can feel totally comfortable knowing that we have experience working with all kinds.
Q: Can I have a portrait of all my pets together?
A: Yes! If your pets are super well trained and we can get them all to sit for the portrait together, that’s even better. That almost NEVER happens. That’s why we put them together in the computer. There is a minimum artwork purchase of $550 for a composite to be included for no additional fee. Otherwise, there is a fee for making the composite of all your pets together. The fee depends on the complexity of the composite.
Q: My pets don’t behave like angels all the time. How will you handle them?
A: We have experience handling all kinds of pets. None sit still. Don’t worry, we specialize in this.
Q: What do you mean by “art work”?
A: Art work refers to Framed Art, Canvases, Albums, and Prints. They are archival and designed to last at least 150 years. You will enjoy these photographs for the rest of your life!
Q: What are your prices?
A: Packages and Wall Art (such as framed prints and canvases) start at $550, Gift prints start at $150, and albums start at $850. Most people invest a minimum of $500-$600 in art work.
Q: How will I get my artwork and how long will it take?
A: You will receive your artwork right at your doorstep in 2-4 weeks.
We can go over this together before we start creating your photographs, when you come in for your portrait session.
